The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics compilation is on its way and fans could not be more excited about it. Seven classic games (six of them fighting titles) are being rereleased on modern platforms with updated features, online play, and much more.
Leading up to its official launch, Capcom is taking the time to highlight each of the games that are set to be included in this upcoming package, and today a brand new trailer was released that features the first game in the Versus series where both Capcom and Marvel’s iconic characters actually met. This is X-Men vs. Street Fighter.
“This game established the foundation of the Versus series by introducing 2-on-2 tag team battles,” reads the trailer’s official description.
“With this revolutionary system, players could take turns cooperating with their tag team partners across a variety of battles, including Variable Combination, allowing players to perform show-stopping Hyper Combos together with their partners!”
X-Men vs. Street Fighter acts as the first official main game in the Versus series. Before it, Capcom developed X-Men: Children of the Atom (1994) and Marvel Super Heroes (1995), which starred exclusively Marvel characters, but started building the foundation of what the Versus series would become.
In 1996, however, Marvel’s X-Men would finally meet and clash with Capcom’s iconic Street Fighters and birth one of the most popular fighting game series of all time.
This new trailer features a look at some of the game’s mechanics, such as its tag system, and also provides another glimpse at some of the new features coming to the compilation like the hitbox/hurtbox viewer. We also get to see some of the awesome concept art that we’ll be able to find in the in-game gallery.
Though it took a bit of time, Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics’ official release date has been unveiled. Fans will be able to pick up the title on September 12 digitally, with the physical version following on November 22.
