It can be argued that the fighting game landscape of today was at least partially shaped by Evo Moment 37, a moment that transpired during Evo 2004. Due to the impressive life lead that Justin Wong had over BST|Daigo Umehara, the decision to throw Chun-Li’s raw super art in neutral seemed like the correct one at the time, but Justin Wong had no way of knowing just how prepared his opponent was for this very scenario.
Needless to say, Evo Moment 37 is a situation that Justin Wong seems to be both cherish and be haunted by at the same time. Evidently, one fan thought the image depicting this event was spooky enough for Halloween this year.
As it turns out, Goh_Billy has decided to carve a jack-o’-lantern in celebration of fighting games this Halloween season. Needless to say, any fighting game fan should be able to immediately recognize the scene with just a glance.
A fiery silhouette is seen performing a high kick against a male silhouette. Of course, this scene is based on Ken parrying Chun-Li’s super art in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
If you listen closely, you can almost hear the crowds roaring in amazement at the scene. Nobody expected Daigo to win the match in the way that he did all those years ago.
Of course, this isn’t the first time this moment was immortalized in the form of a pumpkin (at least until the pumpkin rotted). Geo the Geo carved a similar image in jack-o’-lantern form about a year ago.
Regardless, it would appear that this scene will be haunting Justin Wong for many Halloweens to come. Check it all out below:
I did another pumpkin carving :). I call it Pumpkin Moment #37. pic.twitter.com/cP1wUJQbwl
