New free game Crash Out is basically Tekken in Roblox and it's way better than it has any business being

Roblox is an online platform that’s become extra popular with younger audiences in recent years as it allows players to create, play, and share their own games. From first person shooters to puzzle problem solving, as long as you’re willing to work with the fairly basic 3D stick figure graphics you make pretty much whatever your imagination can come up with… and someone made Tekken.

Technically the title is called “Crash Out” and it just entered an open beta test that’s free to any who wish to participate. Footage of the 3D fighter has emerged as players have been testing it out, and let’s just say we were blown away by how faithful to Tekken it actually is.

Creator MemzDev has been working on Crash Out for the last nine months, and is finally ready to share his baby with the world. While it’s easy to make a “we have Tekken at home” joke upon first sight of the clearly simple graphics and foundations, the undeniable passion behind the project instantly takes it to the next level.

Character movements are instantly recognizable to Tekken fans as we essentially watch the likes of Kazuya and Paul dance about the three dimensional space.

The beta, which went live on August 1, includes full match replays, full controller support, training mode with movelists, sample combos, recording features, frame data, hitboxes, and a tutorial to get you started.

MemzDev notes that this test does not include matchmaking, but Crash Out features a full server lobby mode reminiscent of the likes of Street Fighter’s Battle Hub, and there you can match up with other players and get some games in.

There are 5 characters to choose from including Masku, Boxer, Proto O-S-K-S, Grappler, and Karasu, each one of which has two costumes along with the option to customize appearance. There are also a handful of stages, one of which is a clear reference to Waffle House, an arena fans have been begging Tekken developers to put into Tekken 8.

Below you’ll find a handful of stills via a gallery, two examples of gameplay footage, and a quick showcase of the game’s spectating mode:
