With all the juicy new footage we’ve been seeing of the forthcoming Terry Bogard in Street Fighter 6, it’s a little rough to realize we’re still more than three weeks away from his official launch. The fighting game community will surely spend the time analyzing and speculating, and indeed we’ve already begun as players have been pointing out particularly powerful potential in some of Mr. Bogard’s abilities.
One of the most excited players to see this crossover happen, Rooglemonger, has rolled out a video covering a few of these tools and highlighting why they might lead Terry to a notably high spot on the game’s tier list once he’s out.
Terry has always been a rush down kind of character and thus is equipped with plenty of advancing attacks and strong offensive tools. It seems, however, he may well also be formidable in the zoning department as he has a fairly unique fireball that might give him the edge in projectile battles.
Said projectile is Terry’s Power Wave, a maneuver he’s virtually always had in his 30+ years of existence. Unlike the majority of SF6 projectiles, Power Wave travels along the ground, and we’ve seen footage of how it travels right under other fireballs (save for Juri or JP’s low examples).
While it does look like Power Wave has a decent amount of recovery, this non-clash projectile situation does make traditional fireball wars a lot less comfortable for characters like Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Luke, and the large handful of others that can toss plasma.
On top of that, Terry’s fireball seems slow enough to Drive Rush behind it, and such an ability has proven extremely effective in this game as it offers those with it so much matter of fact control of the neutral space.
It’s clear Terry will be a threat from a distance, and we know he’ll be great when he’s up in your face doing what he does best, but what about the neutral?
We already know he’s got a decently far reaching low forward that he can cancel into big combo damage, a tool many of the top tiers in SF6 share, but he also has the option to skip neutral a bit thanks to another one of his many specials.
Burn Knuckle is Terry’s trademark lunge punch that sees him leap forward, covering a good amount of horizontal space, to punch his foe in the face. This move reaches from full screen and is plus on block when performed from further distances… something those who lived through Street Fighter 4’s AE Yun nightmare are all too familiar with.
To be fair, Street Fighter 6 offers more defensive options and ways to deal with such an attack compared to its predecessor, but this kind of option is still extremely powerful even in the parry and Drive Impact context of SF6.
There’s more, of course, but you’ll have to watch Rooflemonger’s full video to hear it all. Chime into the comments after watching and let us know if you think Terry will be amid the top tiers when he drops into Street Fighter 6 on September 24.
