Nen Impact has several animations that look exactly like Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

This week has seen the big gameplay reveal of upcoming Versus-style fighting game Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact. With the title having a playable demo on the Evo Japan 2024 show floor this weekend, those making the game are sharing all kinds of information and footage giving fans the opportunity to familiarize themselves with it before they get a chance to play it for the first time.

With some of the footage that has already been shared, those who enjoy the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 series and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom probably noticed that Nen Impact looks similar visually. You’re not wrong as there are several animations and visual choices in Nen Impact that look exactly (or very close) like things found in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

Prominent content creator JMCrofts is a big fan of the Versus series, and after seeing HxH Nen Impact decided to make a quick comparison video to show just how parallel some of these similarities really are.

Now, if you’re wondering why these games might have any connection whatsoever, it’s not because the developers of Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact are simply fans of Marvel 3 and TvC. In fact, it’s actually because the company who developed both Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Eighting, is also developing Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact.

With that in mind, we can easily see how some of the animations for moves or when a character gets hit were pulled from those past games and brought back for their latest project.

One clip shows Chun-Li being hit with a wall bounce in TvC, and both the way she flies back and how her body falls back down from the strike can be seen in almost the exact same capacity in Nen Impact. In one of the bits of gameplay footage, we see Hisoka get hit with a wall bounce and almost exactly mimic the animations Chun-Li used as well.

But it’s not just move animations and hit effects that have been pulled from the past games. The pre-fight intros featuring the full teams are presented in a very similar way with a whole squad being seen standing next to each other and readying themselves for battle as the camera pans around in front of them.

Now, some might see this as a knock against Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact, but honestly, those of us who have been waiting years for another full-on Marvel vs. Capcom title will undoubtedly appreciate the nods to Eighting’s older titles.

Hunter X Hunter: Nen Impact currently does not have a release date.
