JP is still arguably Street Fighter 6’s strongest and maybe scariest character to fight against, but a lot of that is put on Amnesia and a lot of his other tools though not so much for Embrace.
Longtime SF pro and JP main WRZT|Nemo recently discussed why he thinks his command grab is still dangerous at high levels and offers a warning for the future of the game.
FGC Translated is back for the first time in a while highlighting one of Nemo’s recent streams surrounding his tournament run for the Capcom Pro Tour 2023 World Warrior Japan event.
Things start out with Nemo showing off how getting a grab in the corner with JP gives him basically a real 50/50 with threatening Embrace or Drive Impact on the opponent’s wakeup.
If they try to block, they get beat by both options. If they jump, they get beat by DI. If they parry they get hit by the command grab.
The only real way to beat besides guessing right is to spend meter on a Super.
I’m not sure if I’d really call that much of a gamechanger, but Nemo takes it in a different direction.
He asks if this is the future we want for the game if other grappler characters like Zangief, Manon and Lily get these same types of consistent setups though he is pretty biased against those fighter archetypes — so maybe it’s all just a ploy to try and keep them in the lower tiers.
During his World Warrior sets, Nemo also talks about what it’s going to be like after JP gets the likely nerf hammer in the future where he feels as though other players won’t “forgive” the villain even if he’s suddenly bad.
You can check out all that with much more detail plus more discussions below thanks to FGC Translated’s strong work.
