The Network for the Actualisation of Social Growth and Viable Development (NEFGAD) has warned the outgoing Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Mamman Ahmadu, to comply with President Tinubu’s directive to hand over to the agency’s most senior officer.
According to NEFGAD, Ahmadu is attempting to manipulate the service record to favour a junior officer who joined the agency in 2008, as his replacement, bypassing more senior officers who have been with the Bureau since its inception in 2007.
In a statement on Wednesday, NEFGAD’s Country Head, Mr. Akingunola Omoniyi urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Inspector General of Police to monitor the handing over procedure to ensure compliance with extant service rules and the President’s directive.
“We cannot continue to politicise appointments and expect a sustainable and effective system in the country. If the Bureau of Public Procurement cannot manage its internal affairs transparently, how can it be trusted to oversee procurement processes in other establishments according to the law?
“The resolve of Mr President to reorganise the BPP for greater efficiency and transparency as captured in his directive to the Agency shouldn’t be lost on anyone including Mr. Ahmadu and his co-travellers.
“We are closely monitoring the BPP’s transition process and any unlawful actions by anyone will be met with strong resistance and mass action,” the country head stated.
He added: “NEFGAD is backing President Tinubu’s action of ensuring transparency and adherence to the rule of law within his administration.”
NEFGAD has vowed to closely monitor the BPP’s transition process and take strong action against any illegal manoeuvres.
