NDLEA Arrests Brother, Sister For Drug Trafficking, Seizes N4.1bn Worth Of Cocaine

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency said that its Special Operation Unit has arrested 49-year-old Kelechi Monday Nwaobasi and his 50-year-old elder sister, Ms. Chinwe Rose Nwaobasi, who are alleged drug barons.

According to the agency, the arrest resulted in the confiscation of cocaine and methamphetamine shipments valued more than N4.1bn in street value from their hideout in Aba, Abia State.

According to a statement signed by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the special operation on Thursday and Friday, June 13 and 14, 2024 at 3B, Boundary Avenue, Aba and a residence along Ohia Road, Ohia, Abia State, followed months of intelligence gathering, resulting in the seizure of 20.76 kilogrammes of cocaine and methamphetamine.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives in Lagos State discovered an expansive warehouse stocked with a large consignment of codeine-based syrup in the Comfort Oboh area of Kirikiri, where four people involved in the opioid’s importation and distribution were arrested during a raid on the facility.

Kingsley Amanambu Obumneke, 38; Emeka Emmanuel, 48; Bornaventure Ugochukwu, 59; and Martin Dike, 56, were arrested, and NDLEA officers recovered 82,000 bottles of the opioid worth more than N600m in street value, a Toyota Tacoma truck, and two buses used for distributing the substance on Monday, June 10, 2024.

In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, two suspects: Muhammad Abba, 33, and Samson Ehizogie, 42, were arrested with 3,550 bottles of ‘Akuskura,’ a new blend of psychoactive chemicals, by agents during a raid on Friday, 14th June at Garki Area 10 and Dutse Suokale.

In response to these developments, the NDLEA’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the officers and men of the Agency’s Special Operation Units in Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Ekiti, Oyo, Kwara, Anambra, Benue, and the FCT Commands for the arrests and seizures.

Marwa emphasized that their operational victories, as well as those of their colleagues around the country, are appreciated greatly.

He advised them not to rest on their laurels, but rather to step up their continuous efforts to curb drug supply and demand.
