NDDC: Council of Oro Traditional Rulers endorse Nsima Ekere, Sam Frank

Advocates development of Oro nation to foster unity. 

The Council of Oro Traditional Rulers, (COTR), have thrown their weight behind the appointment of Obong Nsima Ekere and Hon Frank George as the Managing Director/CEO and Commissioner designates respectively of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, promising to support the new management team of the commission to succeed in its mandate.

In a statement signed by its chairman, HH, Ovong (Hon) G.O. Isemin and Offong Etim Oquong(JP), the apex traditional council of Oro Royal fathers expressed optimism that with the quality and pedigree of the appointees, the NDDC will make its presence felt in Oro nation to engender a sense of belonging in all section of the Niger Delta region.

The statement reads, “The Council of Oro Traditional Rulers(COTR), on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Ahta Bassey Andem Ibok, Ahta Oro VI, and the people of Oro nation, hereby express our deep appreciation to President Mahammadu Buhari for the well deserved appointment of Obong Nsima Ekere as the Managing Director/CEO of NDDC, and Hon Frank Samuel George as the Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State in the NDDC board”.

The royal fathers described the former Deputy Governor as an illustrious son of Akwa Ibom state with a track record of achievement and success in all his previous endeavours. “As the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom state he exhibited a high sense of responsibility and friendly disposition, which brought him closer to the people and won him many admirers in many parts of the state. We, therefore, have no doubt that his tenure as the Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC will witness tremendous environmental development of the Niger Delta region”, the release stated.

The chiefs declared that as the apex traditional institution of the entire people of Oro, living in the five Local Government Areas of Oron, Mbo, Okobo, Udung Uko and Urue Offong/Oruko, referred to as Oro Nation in Akwa Ibom State, they are optimistic that the new NDDC under the leadership of Obong Ekere and Hon George will fast track and accelerate development in Oro nation, a move the royal fathers say will engender a sense of belonging to all ethnic groups in the region and foster unity.

“We pledge our continued support and loyalty to the governments of President Mahammadu Buhari and Governor Udom Emmanuel, for them to deliver democratic dividends to our people. We also pray for the success of Obong Nsima Ekere in his new assignment”, the group declared.
