… Commends Fuel Price Transparency
The Executive Director of the National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN), Comrade Blessing Akinlosotu, has described as a misleading claim that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is exploiting Nigerians with high fuel prices.
Akinlosotu expressed discomfort over allegations and counter-allegations regarding fuel prices between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery, stating that Nigerians expect the partnership to eliminate fuel scarcity and reduce petrol prices.
He urged citizens to recognise the positive aspects of the partnership between the Federal Government and Dangote Refinery Limited (DRL).
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Akinlosotu expressed optimism following the commencement of operations at Dangote Refinery, noting that it should be seen as a source of joy and hope for the nation.
“Nigerians were generally made to believe that this would both end the era of fuel scarcity and reduce the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit or Petrol.
“We are worried to read the allegations and counter-allegations coming from both the DRL and NNPCL over operational cost and pricing of products,’’ he said.
Akinlosotu warned that reports from the Dangote refinery could overheat the volatile oil sector and send wrong signals to some quarters.
He urged both parties to work together and avoid actions that would undermine the milestone achievements toward addressing the country’s energy insufficiency and insecurity.
Also speaking, the NCSCN’s Director of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Comrade Charles Ibiang, said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Company Ltd (NNPCL) secured the product at a minimal cost of N898, adding that NNPCL had shown good faith and should be commended.
He also said Dangote Refinery management had shown good faith by giving Nigeria a refinery.
