NBA Suspends Five Players

The NBA announced the suspension of five players for fighting in the clash between the Detroit Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.

The league body announced on its website on Tuesday.

The fight began with 8:36 minutes left to go in the first half of Sunday’s game, with the Pistons leading 39-30.

Pistons centre Isaiah Stewart had received a technical foul just moments earlier when he bumped DiVincenzo hard after the whistle. Then Holland was called for a foul as he slapped the ball out of Reid’s hands near the baseline.

The two players exchanged words; DiVincenzo stepped between them and grabbed Holland’s jersey before all 10 players on the court, along with multiple coaches and trainers, joined the fight.

Isaiah Stewart received a two-game suspension without pay, and Detroit’s Ron Holland II, Marcus Sasser, and Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid were each suspended one game without pay.

Reid and DiVincenzo will serve their suspensions on Wednesday when the Timberwolves play the Denver Nuggets.

Stewart will start his two-game suspension on Wednesday when the Pistons play the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Holland II and Sasser will also serve suspensions on Wednesday against the Thunder.

The game featured 12 technical fouls, the most in an NBA game since March 23, 2005.
