The Nigerian Navy has commissioned six blocks of three-bedroom flats for its senior rates officers to bolster positive morale and improve effectiveness and productivity.
On Wednesday, the Chief Of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, commissioned the Naval Rating Quarters at the Byazhin area of Kubwa in Abuja.
The Vice Admiral during his remarks, said that the quarters would serve as a residence for the senior rate of the Navy including the Master Warrant Officers (MWO) and Warrant Officers (WO).
He described the development as a giant feat, beneficial to the Nigerian Navy and humanity.
While speaking to the journalists after the event, the Commander, Navy Unit, Abuja, Commodore Tanko Lengaya noted that the quarters will permanently accommodate about 36 ratings.
He said, “Since the Chief of Naval officer came on board, one of the pressing issues that bothered the welfare of our personnel is accommodation, and since he took over, he faced it squarely.
“This is one of the mini accommodations he has been trying to ensure the ratings get. This will go a long way to actively reducing accommodation challenges for the ratings.”
Lengaya further noted that the choice to site the structure in the suburban Kubwa area of the capital city was to ensure security and coordinate the Navy senior ratings.
