National Sports festival Torch Arrives Calabar March 5th

The national sports festival torch tagged “Unity Torch” will arrive Calabar the Cross River State capital on the 5th of March, 2020.

Cross River State Commissioner for Sports and Cinematography, Chief Offu Aya disclosed this while speaking to newsmen that the torch would leave Owerri Imo State on Friday and arrive Calabar on Saturday the 5th of March.

The Commissioner stated that the torch will be received by his Governor Ben Ayade and will be taken round calabar in a fan fair to create awareness for the competition coming up in Edo state.

The Commissioner noted that Governor Ben Ayade was committed to fostering an enabling environment for sports development in the State.

” The unity torch will be leaving Owerri Imo State on Thursday the 5th of March 2020 and will arrive calabar same day where we will have a reception at the stadium with all our athletes on parade.”

Continuing the comissioner said ” The whole essence of the unity torch is to bring the nation together , it is a torch of unity and as the president rightly said during flag off in January, the sports sector is one of the biggest avenues we can use to empower our youths and keep them away from social vices. “

In the same vein, the Commissioner also commended Cross River State cycling contingents who won two silver at the second edition of the Cadbury Bournvita Duathlon championship held in Lagos State.

Also the kickboxing and karate team won laurels for the state at the second edition of the National trials in preparation for the national Sports festival which was held in Port Harcourt.

The Commissioner lauded the state Governor for prompt release of funds to prosecute sporting activities.
