…unity torch arrives Calabar

As part of preparation for the 2020 National Sports Festival billed to take place in Edo State from 20th of March to 1st April, 2020, the ‘Unity Torch’, which is the symbol of the Festival and has been going round other States of the Federation will arrive Calabar on thursday,March 5,2020 from Imo State.
Speaking while putting finishing touches to preparations for the smooth reception of the ‘Unity Torch,’ the Cross River State Commissioner for Sports and Cinematography, Chief Offu Aya,said that the torch would be received by the State Governor, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade at the U. J. Esuene Township Stadium by 10am and thereafter a procession with the torch will follow round the streets of Calabar Metropolis
Chief Aya pointed out that the arrival of the torch to the State also serves as an invitation to the State for the National Sports Festival.
Chief Offu Aya further informed that the ‘Unity Torch’ moving round various States of the Country depicts the Unity of the Nation and it is the most outstanding way of creating awareness for the National Sports Festival. He affirmed that the National Sports Festival is one of the largest sporting events in the country where ethnic and religious differences are shelved aside and forgotten.
