The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has congratulated Prof. Sen. Ben Ayade on the conferment of the prestigious national honour of Commander of the Order other Niger (CON) on him by the President and Commander-in-Chief, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.
Speaking at the reception in honour of the Governor in Abuja, the VC expressed her appreciation to Mr President for finding the Governor worthy of such honour.
She said that Governor Ayade’s recognition as the 1st sitting Governor of the state to be so honour was undoubtedly connected with the intellectual governance he brought to bear on the state.
She said it is on record that Governor Ayade has taken away a great burden from the women and mothers of CRS with his food-on-the-table appointment policy.
The VC said that by that singular act of empowering Cross River youths which has given them some level of independence, the Governor has increased the life span of mothers who normally bear the brunt of providing for such youths.
According to her, “while the nation and other state Governors continue to talk about youths being the future leaders, you have practicalised it by giving them leadership opportunities thus making them leaders of today”.
She also applauded the Governor for his gender-friendly policy which has placed women in leadership positions including her emergence as the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar.
Prof. Obi further appreciated the Governor for the opportunity and exposure of Dr Betta Edu as the APC National Woman Leader, adding that she is making us proud as a people.
“By the appointment of a young woman like Dr Edu, Gov. Ayade is building the next generation of women to take over from the likes of Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa in the state”.
