Nasarawa Amazons End Remo Stars Ladies Unbeaten Run

Remo Stars Ladies’ unbeaten run in the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League came to an end in Lafia as Nasarawa Amazons secured a dramatic 1-0 victory.

Jenat Akekeromowei’s 90th-minute penalty sealed the win, handing the Ikenne-based side their first defeat of the season.

The league resumed with thrilling encounters after a two-week break as the second leg kicked off in various centres with stunning results.

Confluence Queens finally ended their seven-game winless and pointless streak with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Heartland Queens in Ayingba.

New signing Peace Ikediuba, formerly of Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens and BIIK Kazygurt, netted the decisive goal in the 23rd minute.

Defending champions Edo Queens maintained their unbeaten record with a 1-0 victory over Ekiti Queens in Ilorin, courtesy of Rebecca Adeghemile’s debut goal in the 68th minute.

In another dominant display, Naija Ratels thrashed Benue Queens 4-0 in Lafia. Anuoluwapo Awotidoye starred with a hat-trick, becoming the fifth player to score a treble this season, joining Mary Lucky (Heartland Queens), Mary Moses (Rivers Angels), Kafayat Bashiru (Remo Stars Ladies), and Afesinmi Omon (Adamawa Queens).

Obadun Azeezat added the fourth goal in the 78th minute, leaving Benue Queens as the only team yet to register a win this season.

Bayelsa Queens extended their unbeaten run with a commanding 3-0 victory over FC Robo Queens in Yenagoa. Shakirat Moshood bagged a brace, while Olaniyi Alaba added a goal to secure the win for the Prosperity Girls.

Abia Angels continued their fine form, securing a third consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over Dannaz Ladies. A Toyibat Abdulaziz own goal and a strike from Chiamaka Ojialor ensured the Umuahia-based side completed a league double over the Cedars.

In Uyo, the Ibom Angels edged the Delta Queens 1-0, with Uwah Abasiofon heading home the late winning goal.

Rivers Angels secured the second away victory of the matchday, rallying from behind to defeat Adamawa Queens 2-1 in Numan.

After Nnenna Ossai gave the hosts the lead, Taiwo Afolabi equalised in the 52nd minute before an own goal from Temilade Oluwaseun handed the Jewels of Rivers all three points.

Reacting after the game, Christopher Danjuma revealed that despite the win, the team still needed to work more on their conversion rate.

He said, “It’s a very sweet win because we are the team that has stopped the unbeaten run of Remo Stars Ladies, though our conversion rate did not truly reflect our dominance but we will keep working on it.”

“I knew it was going to be a tough match; the aim is to qualify for the Super 6 so every match is for the take. It is important for Nasarawa Amazons to be there and we will stop at nothing to achieve that, he concluded.

Goal scorer Akekeromowei Janet disclosed that although the game was a tough duel, the zeal in the girls made the win possible.

“The game was a tough one but we put all our strength in the coach’s tactics to get the desired result. We wanted goals, as many goals as possible but it never came as we expected so we took the last chance and won.”

The next stop for Nasarawa Amazons is a date with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in one of MD9 as the march for a Super Six (6) slot continues.
