Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will leave the club after the current season.
De Laurentiis stated that Osimhen will likely join either Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), or a Premier League team.
The confirmation comes after months of speculation regarding Osimhen’s future, despite the player signing a new contract with Napoli in December, which included a release clause of around £113 million ($144 million). The 25-year-old striker has been linked with several top clubs in Europe.
De Laurentiis revealed, “We knew it since last summer, the negotiations for his [Osimhen’s] renewal have been long and friendly for that reason, we knew perfectly that he will go to Real Madrid, PSG or some Premier League team.”
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 for a club-record fee, and he has been a key player for the Italian side. His departure is expected to bring a significant financial boost to Napoli.
Last season, Osimhen helped the Naples based club win their first Serie A title in 33 years with his impressive performances elevating him to the status of one of the best strikers in the world and currently, the CAF men’s player of the year.
Chelsea are currently considered as frontrunners to sign Osimhen.
Days ago, Osimhen confirmed he has made his decision and will announce same in the summer.
