Alejandro Garnacho is increasingly likely to remain at Old Trafford, as front runners Napoli are now firmly out of the race to sign the Argentine.
The Italian club were extremely keen to sign the talented youngster, with Antonio Conte seeing him as a perfect replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Earlier this week, representatives from United and Napoli met in Milan to discuss the deal with the intention of getting it across the line.
Unfortunately for United, it looks like that deal is dead in the water.
The Serie A side are now close to completing a deal for their back-up option they identified if they were unsuccessful in signing Garnacho.

Napoli close to signing Karim Adeyemi
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are in the final stages of agreeing a deal for Karim Adeyemi.
The German winger was highlighted by Napoli as another strong candidate for the left-wing role. However, at the time, Garnacho was their first choice.
With their £42 million bid for the Argentine rejected by United, Napoli now seems to have agreed terms for Adeyemi for the same price, as opposed to increasing their bid for Garnacho.
This season, Garnacho has been more of an impact substitute under Ruben Amorim, with eight goals and five assists in 33 matches. However, Adeyemi’s grabbed five goals and five assists in only 13 matches, giving a much higher goal contribution.
It’s been reported that whilst the talks between Napoli and Dortmund are close to completion, the clubs are now turning to focus on their respective weekend games against Juventus and Werder Bremen, set to return to talks on Sunday.
With Napoli close to signing Adeyemi for a very similar figure to their Garnacho bid, only Chelsea are now known to be eyeing up a move for United’s young star.
Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are now close to reaching full agreement for Karim Adeyemi.
The package will be less than reported €50m, as talks are now advanced for fee around €40m.
