In the spirit of giving, Nana’s Southern Kitchen, in collaboration with corporate executives and community members, is set to distribute over 250 free meals on Christmas Day at their Kent location. The heartwarming initiative, now in its fourth year, aims to provide a warm and hearty meal to those in need, embodying the welcoming spirit of Nana’s namesake, Myrtle Henderson.
The event will take place on Christmas Day from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Kent restaurant, located at 10234 SE 256th St, in Kent, continuing a tradition that is well-received by the community each year. Last year, Nana’s generously provided 1,700 meals, following up on 1,200 meals in 2021, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the community during the holiday season.
Rodney Clark, Cisco’s Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Small & Medium Business, helped spearheadthe effort by generously donating 100 meals. The Pacific Coast Fruit Company from Kent is contributing fresh produce for the event, adding a wholesome touch to the festive occasion. In addition, more than 25 individuals from the community have rallied behind the cause, collectively donating between 1 to 50 meals.
Nana’s owner, Todd Minor, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, emphasizing that the event is a tribute to the legacy of his great-grandmother, Myrtle Henderson. Myrtle’s culinary prowess and warm hospitality, reflected in the dishes served at Nana’s, continue to bring people together just as she did for her family and friends.
“My great grandmother, Nana, used her food to bring people together, teach life lessons, and welcomed everyone,” shared Minor. “Service was in my Great-Grandma’s DNA. She made sure everyone always had a full belly whether they were going to work, church, or school. We do the same, ensuring our customers get exceptional service even while on the go with our takeout meals.”
Nana’s Southern Kitchen specializes in serving Southern staples, offering a fixed menu featuring main dishes such as fried chicken, catfish, fried shrimp, and pork chops, accompanied by sides like potato salad, green beans, mustard or collard greens, cabbage, candied yams, and macaroni and cheese.
On Christmas Day, the staff at Nana’s kindly asks everyone to bring their patience as they aim to serve 250 customers.
