The Nigerian currency, the naira, began the New Year on a positive note appreciating against the dollar on the official window in the first trading day of the year.
FMDQ data showed that the naira strengthened slightly to N1538.23/$1 on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from N1,538.25, gaining N0.02 against the dollar.
Contrastingly, in the black market, the naira lost N10 to trade at N1,665/$1 as against the previous rate of N1,655/$1.
Similarly, the naira lost N35 against the British Pound to trade at N2,160/£1 as against the previous day’s rate of N2,125\£1.
The naira continues to hold steady against the Canadian Dollar at N1,280/CA$1.
The naira also lost N25 against the Euro to trade at ₦1,740/€1 as against the previous day’s rate of ₦1,715/€1.
