The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed 828 cartons of contaminated Bioflex infusions.
In a statement shared on the agencies’ X handle, formerly Twitter, NAFDAC said the action followed a complaint from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, Kaduna State.
The complaint involved the presence of suspended particles in the infusions supplied by Biomedical Company Limited, Ilorin, Kwara State, which prompted an investigation by the agency’s North-West Zonal Office (NWZ).
“Laboratory analysis revealed that the products failed sterility tests, posing potential health risks. With the approval of the Director-General of NAFDAC, the NWZ oversaw the forfeiture and subsequent destruction of the contaminated infusions,” said NAFDAC.
Bioflex infusions are painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines.
According to the statement, the products were removed from their secondary packaging, crushed, and buried, while the cartons were burnt to ensure complete disposal.
The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of medical products in Nigeria and urged the public to always report suspicious products for swift regulatory action.
