You may consider listening to your child next time he/she complains about not going to school again after reading the experience of Kandy Umoh, now an actor and a filmmaker.
On Saturday morning, May 8, 2021, Umoh took to Facebook, one of the most popular social media networks in the world to err his disdain after he was expelled from secondary school for doing no wrong.
Kandy Umoh in a post titled “HOW I GOT EXPELLED FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL…”, said:
“Yeah…it’s been a tough one for me growing…I had this compound master in my secondary “Government Secondary School, State Housing Estate By Atekong Drive, Calabar, Cross River State” his name was Mr Patrick although he is late now and his soul can rest where ever because I don’t really care…
This man decided to single me out and bullied me, punish me, threatened to fail me in my exams.
One of those days he came to flog for names of noisemakers in our class and he had this way of not flogging you if you pay him 20 naira, deliberately I will choose to get flogged than pay that 20 naira because of the value then…
With 20 naira, I will buy ice cream or zobo for 5 naira, agidi 5 naira, meat pie 5 naira and then I will buy another 5naira something for El Ninó…
Now how did I get this money? It’s through playing tricks with my dad’s change, when he sent me to buy a razor or anything, I will tell him that the man says he doesn’t have change, then later in the evening I will go back and collect the money, keep it to be cold first then after it’s confirmed that he has forgotten the money, then I can now use it or I will tell lies to the woman selling borehole water that my water is remaining 40 naira, the owner of the borehole doesn’t know I have fetched already from the son or daughter, I will now say give me my change, I am not fetching again…hello dear reader…stop looking at me like that, some of you did it too…
The compound master said that I am stubborn and began setting me up, reported me for crimes I didn’t commit and my name entered the black book three times and I was out of the school by the end of SS2 and I really never had a good relationship with my Dad, so there was no room to let my dad know what I was going through in school…I kept it to myself…
Then I heard he (Mr Patrick) is dead, my classmates decided that we should attend his burial and while we were there I heard of only the good things he did but no bad, not even frustrating me in that school…
All I am saying is ask your children and listen to them let them tell you about what’s going on in their school…”
