In a letter dated 18 July 2016 Mr Raymond Ugba Murphy resigned his appointment with the Cross River State Government as Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy and National Contact. Mr Murphy cited three reasons for his resignation: dwindling state resources, official idleness and the refusal of the state governor to take his advice.
His decision may not have gone down well with his former boss and colleagues. This may have caused the SA to the Governor on Youth Mobilization, Comrade Utande Emmanuel to react on 8 August. According to Emmanuel, 'My perspective observations on Chief Ray's resignation is akin to a farmer who preferred casting blames on tools, workers and the soil for poor harvest, instead of seeking new methods that will enhance a good harvest'.
'Alleging that the Governor does not take Advise as proclaimed by Ray Morphy, in his resignation letter published by the Press is a Subjective assertion that may not be completely correct, when its view from a parochial perception… It is imperative that an allegation of such magnitude would require some material proposals and memoirs stating categorically where an advise was jettison by His Excellency, which might have informed his resignation from an appointment that was barely four months', Emmanuel further contended.
Former SA Murphy may have preempted this type of reactions or was reacting to an earlier criticism when he noted further on his social media account titled, 'To Whom it May Concern' of 6 August. In his rebuttal, he noted that,
'Anybody who expected me to stay and serve in a corrupt government doesn't know me at all. To do so is to negate everything I hold dear.
How can I serve in tainted administration when I myself formulated and led ANCOR Revolution, the official anti corruption campaign of the EFCC. An effort that we served in with vigor and commitment and with great anti corruption personalities such as Debo Adeniran. No way will I be found amongst the corrupt'.
