Something is cooking
After loudly breaking active player records for a fighting game in 2022, MultiVersus saw its open beta release pulled down earlier this year with some not fully convinced of its return.
Despite things being pretty darn quiet the latter half of 2023, however, significant signs are pointing to something coming soon for MultiVersus fans.
Earlier this month, new Happy Meal advertisements were spotted at McDonald’s apparently teasing MultiVersus toys are coming to the packs soon.
They have apparently only been seen in Belgium and the Netherlands, so there were some questions to their authenticity at first — but the ads have been photographed at multiple locations by multiple people.
There’s obviously no real point in producing toys for a currently delisted video game that you can’t purchase anything for right now unless this was somehow done by mistake, which points to a reintroduction for the platform fighter coming sometime in the pretty darn near future.

Though that’s not all of course.
MultiVersus Director Tony Huynh has been pretty quiet on social media since the servers went down in July, and he came back for the first time since September where he said “Today was a good day.”

In his first original post on X (formerly Twitter) in months, Huynh shared a link to the Wikipedia article for The Muppets’ Swedish Chef, which seems to indicate that Player 1st Games has something cooking and coming together.
Moreover, some fans have been following the developer’s apparent movements through the MVS SteamDB page that’s been updated pretty consistently in recent months including a “privatetest” branch, which has only been active since December 6.
The “privatetest” branch of MultiVersus was just updated
Also, to note:
In the last 2 hours, they updated their “internaldev” branch 5 times. 2 of the 5 of these updates were to rollback to the previous version (assuming the newer ones had issues, so they had to go back)— ausil ( laisul ) (@AusilMV) December 11, 2023
Their previously pinned post on X about Season 2 has also been unpinned recently as well.
When the announcement was first made to pull the game down and work on it behind closed doors again, Warner Bros. Games did state that it would re-emerge in 2024, and all evidence is now making it look like they’re going to follow through on that promise — and perhaps even much sooner than expected.
There have been some concerns with the continued financial struggles of Warner Bros. Discovery that MultiVersus may get the ax while out of the public view, but things are looking a lot more positive now.
Although we missed out on any re-reveal at The Game Awards 2023 after winning best fighting game in 2022, it seems we could get more concrete news regarding MultiVersus’ future as early as January 2024.
How much of the game has changed over that time remains to be seen, but we’re supremely interested to see if MultiVersus can recapture the enthusiasm it had at launch outside of the beta.
