Mortal Kombat Armageddon’s epic menu screens recreated in Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat Armageddon's epic menu screens recreated in Mortal Kombat 1

Perhaps a victim of the “quantity over quality” approach, 2006’s Mortal Kombat Armageddon would be the last of Midway’s four 3D Mortal Kombat entries. It had both high and low points, to be sure, but it does boast one of the franchise’s most memorable approaches to main menu presentation.

Said presentation was simple as it featured two characters with notably intertwined stories, one striking a full body pose in the background while half of the other’s face took up about a third of the foreground. Mortal Kombat fan and YouTuber Ermaccer has recreated a handful of these with the updated graphics, character models, and stages of 2023’s Mortal Kombat 1.

These are more than just images, by the way, as the characters are animated with ever so slight movements as they breath or rock back and forth. There were eight in total back in Armageddon (which featured every single playable character to date) and Ermaccer was able to recreate all but one (Shinnok and Raiden) with the available fighters of MK1.

The creator notes some challenges in the process as certain characters were tougher to position and pose due to height differences (Goro is probably the biggest offender here) and in some instances the fore and background characters are switched.

Still we get some awesome updated versions of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, Kitana and Mileena, Shao and Sindel, Cyrax and Sektor, Johnny Cage and Goro, Liu Kang and Shang Tsung and finally Sonya and Kano.
