Attendees will get to try out Takeda before his official launch
Mortal Kombat 1 fans are only a couple of weeks away from being able to get their hands on the latest DLC characters for the game. Main roster character Takeda and Kameo Fighter Ferra are joining the fight via early access on July 23.
Before that happens, though, NetherRealm Studios will be bringing a new build of the game to the year’s biggest all around fighting game tournament, Evo 2024, next week so that people can try out Takeda even earlier. Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon took to Twitter to not only share some new teaser footage of Takeda, but to provide a lot of details about the upcoming build and what kinds of balance changes it will include.
The first tweet we have for you here comes from Boon and features a fresh, quick look at Takeda in-game. We see a new pre-fight clash between Takeda and Smoke where the former tells the latter, “You could just smoke bomb outta here!”
Smoke responds by saying, “And miss this fight? Are you kidding?” The rest of the clip sees the clash break apart and showcases Takeda’s pre-fight intro with what might be a part of one of his win poses edited in. It’s a little hard to tell.

If the news about Takeda being playable at Evo wasn’t enough, though, Boon took to another tweet thread to add a lot of information about what we can expect to see at the major tournament in Las Vegas next week and the patch that will follow.
Boon begins by reiterating that Takeda will be playable at Evo starting on July 19. He then makes mention of some of the balance changes we can expect to find in the Evo build, including “SERIOUS buffs” for Nitara, a new combo for Li Mei, and more.

Boon also explains that this new build will feature balance changes for some Kameo Fighters. Frost and Scorpion will be receiving new Ambush moves, Sektor’s missile is getting buffs, Cyrax’s bomb is seeing improvements, and Goro is getting “many new ambush cancel options.”

According to Boon, these won’t be the only balance changes coming in the Takeda build of Mortal Kombat 1. A detailed list of patch notes is set to be released early next week, the developer said.
Going even further beyond, the video game legend referred back to a recent poll that he put out on Twitter that asked fans which characters (both main roster and Kameo) on the roster they felt most needed improvements. While Boon didn’t give specifics of who actually got changes based on these results, he did reveal that Geras, Havik, Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi, and Nitara appeared on many fan lists.
For the roster fighters, these seemed to appear on many of your lists…

Lastly, Boon thanked all of the fans for their continued support of Mortal Kombat 1. He shared that the title was still in the top 20 best selling games for the month of May 2024 despite having already been available for nine months.
The exciting news for Mortal Kombat 1 doesn’t stop there, however, as NetherRealm and Warner Bros. will be holding a special Mortal Kombat 1 panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 26, that is set to make announcements pertaining to “Year 2” of Mortal Kombat 1 and its future DLC.
Evo 2024 is taking place next week, July 19 – 21, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
