Mortal Kombat 1's Tremor Kameo Fighter appears to have variations like Mortal Kombat X according to new teaser from Ed Boon

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games recently showed off Mortal Kombat 1’s first set of DLC characters slated to join the fight. Invincible’s Omni-Man and Kameo Fighter Tremor saw their big gameplay reveal at New York Comic Con 2023 earlier this month, and though the developers noted that this wasn’t a full gameplay reveal trailer, the showcase did provide some glimpses at what these two characters will be able to do in-game.

The first DLC Kameo Fighter, Tremor, saw a couple of his tools shown off during that trailer, and one attack saw him equip two large rocks on his hands to hit the opponent, while the other saw him firing a stream of lava diagonally up forward. Just a few moments ago, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon shared a GIF on X featuring another small teaser for Tremor, and from the looks of it he may have variations like he did back in Mortal Kombat X.

Mortal Kombat X was released back on April 14, 2015, and each fighter in that game had three different variations that players could choose from. These variations provided the character with varied tools that ultimately changed up their gameplay and strategies allowing players to choose the best one suited for them and the match up.

Tremor joined Mortal Kombat X as DLC in the game’s first Kombat Pack, and when he did he came equipped with the three following variations: Aftershock, Metallic, and Crystalline. Boon’s Mortal Kombat 1 teaser shows a close up of the point character and assist’s in-game portraits and meters, and we see that Tremor has something unique next to his name.

Two of his three Mortal Kombat X variation names can be seen in front of his name under the life bar in Mortal Kombat 1. The GIF toggles between the two of them, and we see “(Aftershock) Tremor” and “(Metallic) Tremor” shown here.

Unfortunately, Boon’s teaser doesn’t include much information on how Tremor’s variations work in Mortal Kombat 1. The only text he wrote with this post reads, “The [many] faces of Tremor ,” which seems to imply variations, but doesn’t tell us much about how they will work.

Will you be able to switch in between them mid-fight and get access to all new Kameo attacks depending on which is equipped? We aren’t sure just yet, but we should hopefully know soon as a recent leak suggests that Omni-Man and Tremor are set to release for early access on November 6.

Back in Mortal Kombat X, Aftershock’s unique traits included a ground pound special move that he could delay and see the effect of it take place a few seconds later. He could also send a shock wave down to the ground while he’s in the air that works as a quick check or punish.

In the Metallic variation, Tremor had a standard lava form and a gold skin form. His move properties changed depending on what form you were in, and gold gave him a unique projectile while lava granted him fire-based moves similar to the Kameo attack we’ve seen in Mortal Kombat 1.

His last variation was Crystalline, which gave him access to a move that covers him in crystal skin and absorbs a single hit. He also gained a move that lets him summon an interactable that he could either throw at the opponent as a projectile or jump off of as an escape option.

If I had to guess, Tremor in Mortal Kombat 1 might have his standard Kameo Fighter attacks, but he could also be able to switch between each variation mid-match and have those moves gain unique properties like they did in Mortal Kombat X. Unfortunately, the teaser from Boon below is all we have to go off of at this moment in time.
