Mortal Kombat 1 has just received a new update for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game. This smaller-sized patch was put out in an attempt to fix the desync issues that players have been experiencing as of late.
Though the update is live now on both platforms, some who have already updated their game and gave the online play a try are reporting that desyncs are still happening post-patch. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games have released the patch notes for the new update, which you can find below.
“The latest #MK1 patch addressing desync issues is now live on Xbox and PS5,” wrote the official Mortal Kombat Twitter account. “Update your game now to make sure that you’re kombat ready!”
Players began reporting desync issues more frequently after DLC character Quan Chi was added to the game last month. The issues got so bad, in fact, that Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon took to Twitter to let fans know that the team is aware of the issues and was working on a fix.
“PSA: We are aware of (as well as examining) the desync issue with MK1 Kombat league,” wrote Boon on Twitter last month. “We will update you on this matter shortly.”
Today’s patch is the fix the developers have sent out in hopes that it would clear up the disconnects players have been experiencing. The desyncs have mainly been a problem for Kombat League play, and competitors have expressed frustration for losing points as a result of their matches losing connection.
The update is available right now and comes in at 700MB for PS5 and 1700MB for XSX.

Below are the official patch notes for the latest update.
General Fixes & Adjustments
• Fixed a desync that occurs during Kombat League sets.
• Adjusted the timing of the match found audio cue.
Unfortunately, reports about Kombat League desyncs are still coming in even after the update. Prominent commentator and Mortal Kombat fan PND Ketchup shared his experience after patching the game.
He shared a screenshot of a desync on Twitter with a caption that simply read, “Oh.” Ketchup went on to clarify that he suffered his first desync during his third Kombat League set of the day — so pretty quickly into playing after the patch.

Ketchup isn’t the only one to experience disconnects after the latest Mortal Kombat 1 patch either. Looking through the responses to the official MK Twitter account’s tweet (featured above), you will find numerous comments from players still being hit with desyncs after updating the game.
It is unclear right now whether or not this new fix is just taking some time to roll out and the desync issues will indeed become less frequent after the update or if this is a case where the developers will need to put in more work to truly iron things out. At this time, neither NetherRealm Studios nor Warner Bros. Games have released any statements about the disconnects still occurring.
