Just yesterday, Ghostface, Noob Saibot, Sektor, Cyrax, Conan the Barbarian, and the T-1000 were announced for the Kombat Pack 2’s lineup for Mortal Kombat 1. It turns out that Kombat Pack 2 will be inseparable from the Khaos Reigns story expansion, at least initially.
On the bright side, Animalities are being added to the game for everyone, free of charge. All of the main roster characters will have access to an extra finisher after the patch drops. This is similar to how Mortal Kombat 11 added Friendships as part of a free update.
During the Khaos Reigns announcement trailer, we saw scenes depicting a hyena, hippopotamus, gorilla, fossilized tyrannosaurus rex, wolf, scorpion, and pufferfish brutally murder the Mortal Kombat 1 cast.
Finally, we got confirmation as to what this actually was with Mileena transforming herself into a orchid mantis. She then proceeded to stabbing her victim in the shoulders before devouring his head. Finally, she then ripped in half what was left of the body.
Animalities were returning to Mortal Kombat. They had debuted in Mortal Kombat 3 back in 1995. However, Animalities ended up only being in Mortal Kombat 3 and future versions of the third iteration of the series.
As mentioned before, one of the Animalities appearing in Mortal Kombat 1 will have its user transforming into a scorpion. This will obviously be Scorpion’s animality, right?
Funnily enough, Scorpion’s Animality in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and onwards had him transforming into a penguin, of all things. This penguin would then lay an explosive egg near the opponent, which ultimately obliterated them.
For some strange reason, Sheeva’s Animality had her transforming into a scorpion. After stinging the opponent, they would then violently explode after a brief delay.
Mortal Kombat 4 seemingly addressed this by giving Scorpion a Fatality called “Scorpion Sting.” Though Animalities were no longer a thing by this point, this Fatality had Scorpion transforming into a scorpion.
From here, Scorpion would then seize the opponent by the legs with his pincers. They’d then be stabbed through the chest with the scorpion’s stinger before getting torn in half.
At long last, Mortal Kombat 1 will likely be correcting this oddity by giving Scorpion his namesake Animality.
