Mortal Kombat 1 has already proven to be both fun and an innovative take on the 30 year old franchise, fans have also expressed plenty of disdain for the game’s rougher edges, often citing the experience as “unfinished” on social media.
Some of the fairly severe gameplay bugs have already been attended to, but the game’s online experience still feels widely unpolished in ways that feel unacceptable when it comes to a AAA fighting game franchise like Mortal Kombat here in 2023. It’s online that Boon and his team seem to be setting their initial sights as he pitches a 4-answer poll asking which feature should get expedited attention.
Many expected the $70 base game to include routine perks such as crossplay between platforms. The lack thereof was somewhat surprising, but also somewhat dwarfed in gravity by the fact that online connections that were available often felt janky and unplayable.
This comes on the heels of 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11, which was lauded for high marks in this very category and thus makes it all the more baffling that MK1 wouldn’t matter of fact include filters for wi-fi and high ping users.
Though it surely isn’t an exhaustive list of the problems plaguing Mortal Kombat 1 at the moment, Boon asked his X followers which of the four they’d most like to see rectified first:
We are working on additional online features for MK1. Can’t announce any dates/specifics at the moment. Which feature would you like to see the most/first?
— Ed Boon (@noobde) November 3, 2023
While we don’t have any dates for fixes in sight yet, this is a good move by Boon in that it lets the fan base know developers have at least heard their cries for correction and intend to make some changes.
We’d love to hear which of these online features you feel MK1 would benefit most from having fixed first, and whether or not there are others that are even higher priority. Chime into the comments with your thoughts on the matter, and be sure to vote in Boon’s poll to help the process along.
