More of the brutal Invincible references in the new Mortal Kombat 1 Omni-Man gameplay trailer

NetherRealm Studios made their latest big reveal with the unveiling of the full on gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1’s first DLC character, Invincible’s Omni-Man. This week, fans were given a much closer look at what the upcoming fighter is capable of in-game, and we were also provided with his official release date.

Naturally, the developers behind Mortal Kombat are masters at incorporating details and references from the source material whenever a guest character is introduced into one of their fighting titles. That rings true for Omni-Man, and GameSpot took the time to put together a side-by-side video comparing footage from the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer with the references from the Invincible show.

Right off the bat, GameSpot shows where the inspiration came from for one of Omni-Man’s Fatalities. One scene from the show depicts the villain squeezing the hell out of an opponent’s head until it is completely crushed and explodes into a gory mess complete with their eye popping out.

This is recreated very accurately in Mortal Kombat 1, though the game uses a few more dynamic camera angles for the finisher.

One of the most recognizable scenes from Invincible sees Omni-Man pummeling the titular character into the ground as their face becomes a bloody mess. This is where the popular “Think, Mark!” meme came from, and in Mortal Kombat 1 this same beat down is tied to Omni-Man’s Fatal Blow.

The latest Mortal Kombat 1 trailer gave fans an extended look at Omni-Man’s subway Fatality as well. GameSpot’s video shows the full side-by-side comparison between the show’s scene and the Fatality in-game, and we see that the attention to detail made by the Mortal Kombat 1 developers is, as always, absolutely top notch.

Invincible’s Omni-Man will become available for early access on November 9. To play him that early, you’ll want to either purchase the Premium Edition of Mortal Kombat 1 or the game’s Kombat Pack.

He will become available to everyone on November 16. In addition to this, despite what many have been lead to believe the first DLC Kameo Fighter, Tremor, won’t actually become available until November 20.
