When it comes to Mortal Kombat characters, there are likely several extremely popular ones that pop into your head the instant you think about it. Mileena, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Liu Kang, the long-running fighting game franchise has a ton of familiar fighters that fans know and love — and it has some that fans don’t.
Drahmin is certainly one of the Mortal Kombat series’ least popular characters, but that hasn’t stopped one PC modder from showing him some love. This Mortal Kombat 1 mod adds Drahmin into the game as a main roster fighter, and despite not being the most interesting character, he actually looks amazing here.
Drahmin first debuted in fighting games via Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, which launched on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo Gamecube back on November 16, 2002. This combatant is an Oni, a demon of the 5th plane of the Netherrealm that has an iron club mounted on his right arm.
He wears a creepy mask, an artifact called the Face of Kun-Lo, and in doing so is able to control his rage and fight with a disciplined mind. When his mask is removed, Drahmin becomes filled with rage and fights with murderous intent.
In order to recreate this sinister fighter in Mortal Kombat 1, PC modder Shaar72537611 used several of the assets already found within the game.
Straight from Shaar, below is what was used to put Drahmin together in Mortal Kombat 1:
“Mask from in invasion
Melted meat body from fatalities
Spiked Club made by me
The rest are from Shao,Reiko,Havik and Kenshi”
The end result is a very accurate looking Drahmin that looks fairly organic. Some aspects of the mod, like his shoulder pad and iron club don’t look quite as detailed as other parts of the game, but that is absolutely to be expected here.
NetherRealm Studios has made it a point to add some of the Mortal Kombat characters from back in the 3D era that haven’t been seen in years into Mortal Kombat 1. Warriors like Nitara, Ashrah, Reiko, and Darrius are all back as either main roster characters or Kameo Fighters, but Drahmin has not yet seen the same treatment.
If you’re a fan of Drahmin, though, you can check out this slick PC mod below. There does not appear to be download information on this mod just yet, but hopefully we’ll see it actually released at some point.
