No fewer than 15 terrorists have been killed and one arrested in ongoing operations by troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in Mongunu, Borno State.
The MNJTF said the development was a result of its ongoing air and ground clearance operations in Kukawa, Borno.
A statement by the MNJTF, signed by spokesperson Lieu.-Gen. Olaniyi Osoba on Wednesday, noted that air components targeted and prevented several armed and wounded terrorists on motorbikes regrouping in Guzamala.
“In a follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 terrorists and one captured alive as they attempted to flee after sustaining more injuries.
“The troops also destroyed three additional Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), bringing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to 7.
“The operation led to the capture of a significant cache of weapons, including 7 AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb and tube, 2 Anti-aircraft guns, and 152 Shilka rounds of ammunition,” the MNJTF said.
The troops assured that the ongoing clearance operation will help to restore peace and security in the region, adding that they remain steadfast in eradicating the terrorists.
