MLS side New York Red Bulls are set to sign one of Manchester United’s attacking targets.
New York Red Bulls finished the season in 7th in the Eastern Conference, making it into the playoffs of the MLS Cup.
The New York based side only just got through the first round, knocking Columbus out on penalties. In the quarter-finals, NYRB defeated local rivals New York City FC 2-0 to book a place in the Semi-Finals against Orlando.
However, the club are now looking to Europe to boost their fire-power, focusing on one of United’s former targets.
At the start of the INEOS era, United were looking for strikers, with their search leading them to Germany.
The Red Devils identified Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a key candidate to be a short-term January move. Choupo-Moting was reportedly open to a loan deal, but nothing materialised.
Now, Florian Plettenberg has reported that the MLS side have confirmed a deal for the 35-year-old.
The Cameroon international currently finds himself without a club after being let go by Bayern Munich in the summer.
As such, the striker is free to sign now with the medical completed and the deal all signed.
It’s understood that his contract will begin in January and will last for at least two years.
