OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (TCN) — A 37-year-old woman is being charged for allegedly making a “suicide pact” with her 10-year-old daughter, who ended up overdosing on pills and requiring hospitalization.
According to WLOX-TV, on the evening of July 6, the Ocean Springs Police Department officers received a call about a young child overdosing at the Motel 6 on Bienville Boulevard. Officers arrived and reportedly found an unresponsive 10-year-old girl, as well as empty pill bottles and other medication around her. Police noted that the pills had been prescribed to the girl’s mother, Brittany Hensley.
WLOX reports EMS took Hensley and her daughter to Ocean Springs Hospital, and the daughter was airlifted to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. The girl recovered and is now in custody of Mississippi Child Protective Services.
Ocean Springs Police Chief Ryan Lemaire told the Biloxi Sun Herald that Hensley “had this suicide pact with her daughter, and the daughter took the pills, but she didn’t.” Hensley reportedly “started freaking out when her daughter wouldn’t wake up.”
Hensley fled Mississippi upon her release from the hospital. She was located in Huntsville, Alabama, on Oct. 15 and arrested on a warrant for felonious child abuse. She has been extradited back to Mississippi and is in custody at the Jackson County Jail with bond set at $500,000.
