Our client seeks the services of a Mining Engineer to join its mining team on solid minerals. The successful candidate will be required to design and implement mine plans and systems to efficiently, safely, and successfully extract minerals of interest.

Job Description

Provide support in all technical aspects of mining and geological engineering deploying sound engineering principles and methodology.
Manage mines operations shift teams to ensure effective and efficient execution of mining activities, and that planned production goals are achieved.
Handle day-to-day supervision of operators and production activities on the mine in compliance with plans.
Monitor progress of mining activities and analyse results of completed work.
Design pit walls, benches, haul roads, ramps, and drainage systems as necessary or required.
Develop, update, and implement mine plans and designs to meet short-term and long-term objectives.
Produce daily mine plans for drill, blast, load, haul and dump activities as applicable.
Ensure that waste dumps and pit designs are effectively implemented in the field.
Identify and troubleshoot problems that arise and recommend solutions.
Display sensitivity and responsible approach to environmental concerns and take corrective action.
Carry out equipment requirement forecasting and deploy optimal number of equipment to deliver established production targets.
Undertake mine design improvements aimed at improving safety, fleet and manpower efficiency and cost management.
Utilise mining technology as required, including drones, survey devices and software.
Ensure the efficient utilisation of resources, including manpower, machinery, and raw materials.
Contribute to continuous improvement of mining operations.
Prepare daily, weekly and monthly report of activities.
Ensure that health and safety regulations are strictly adhered to and that a safe work environment is maintained.
Perform any other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in mining engineering or related discipline.
Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated experience in mining operations.
Registered professional with membership of relevant professional body an added advantage.
Proven technical experience with mine planning, drilling, blasting and related activities.
High level analysis and problem-solving skills and ability to provide working solutions.
Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Clear commitment to safety, health and responsible environmental management.
Ability to complete projects on time and on budget.
Excellent computer skills with proficiency in the use of CAD tools and other relevant applications.
Working knowledge of surveying technology/mine planning and development software.
Good analytical skills with strong scientific and mathematical background.
Ability to interpret maps, charts and graphical data
Good working knowledge of environmental, legislative and regulatory requirements.
Strong communication with ability to communicate technical information to all levels of the organisation.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
