Job Description

The Mine Overseer Logistics has the Legal accountability with a 2.14.1 and a 2.13.12 appointment in terms of the MHSA section 26 of 1996. The main responsibility of this role is to ensure that a dedicated section of the operational process operates effectively from a current and future best practice perspective, with a time frame of 1-2 years.

Activities will include (but not limited to) Managing and co-ordinating the following:

  • Ensure that health and safety standards are adhered to and improved upon in the section
  • Ensure daily calls are met and investigate any deviations/shortfalls/breakdowns or damages and resolve with or without assistance
  • Inspections, follow-ups and meetings with production team to identify and resolve any constraints that will affect production
  • Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards
  • Review and introduce mining best practices to enhance performance efficiencies over long term.
  • Control and monitor, availability/utilization of all the resources under his control, following up on all the reports and investigating all incidents/accidents in area of appointment       
  • Liaising with production Mine Overseer and Section Manager / Engineer regarding logistical requirements on a daily basis

This role is in the Engineering – Logistics Department and is at a Band 6 level reporting to the Section Engineering Manager

Qualifications

  • Mine Overseer Certificate for scheduled mines (essential)
  • Mine overseer 2.14.1 plus 2.13.12 appointment (essential)
  • Blasting Certificate (essential)
  • Mining Degree or Diploma (advantageous)
  • First Aid Certificate

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ mining experience
  • Bord & Pillar Mining experience will be advantageous
  • Logistic experience as a Logistic Co-Ordinator / Mine Overseer or practical experience in a Logistical Area / Section

Knowledge & Skills

  • Computer literate
  • Mine Health and Safety Act knowledge
  • Medically fit
  • Valid Drivers licence
