The latest fighting game community skit from the mighty Mighty Keef digs deep into the official Evo 2024 line up. The massive fighting game tournament returns and is is taking place later this year, but just last month the full line up of main stage games was unveiled.
There were several staples and very much expected choices made for the list such as AAA games like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Mortal Kombat 1, but unfortunately for Dragon Ball FighterZ fans, this year’s anime fighter representation is going to Granblue and Under Night In-Birth instead of DBFZ. Keef’s new skit sees an understandably upset Dragon Ball FighterZ arguing its case among the other main stage Evo games.
Much like we’ve seen from similar skits in the past, Keef’s latest Evo 2024 comedy bit begins with all of the main stage games in a room together talking about the event. We see Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 (who, of course, is dancing), and the rest of the crew all having a chat about the upcoming festivities.
This year’s Evo is bringing back a classic title as well in Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, who is represented as an old grandpa who is off camera in Keef’s skit and simply makes funny interjections throughout while being hard of hearing. Keef also makes some commentary here on recent happenings in the fighting game space, such as the controversy surrounding Mortal Kombat 1’s additional content and costume prices.
“Instead of talking about dividends, why don’t you talk about the characters that need a little bit of fine tuning, huh?” Street Fighter 6 asks Mortal Kombat 1. “You’re worried about the wrong balance.”
The core of the skit, though, focuses on Dragon Ball FighterZ, who comes in and questions why they weren’t included in the main stage game line up. One of the points DBFZ tries to make is that it is still relevant because the game just saw the addition of rollback netcode… but the rest of the crew is quick to point out how badly the latest update broke the game’s online play.
As always, Keef’s skits are a great watch. If you need a quick laugh for the day and have been following some of the latest happenings in the FGC, this video is perfect for you.
