This summer saw former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy return to Old Trafford in the guise of assistant coach.
The legendary striker has joined Erik ten Hag’s team of coaches alongside Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Andreas Georgson who have also all joined this summer.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe was keen to make changes and as such has not only restructured the operational directors but also the coaching staff.
Van Nistelrooy is bringing his technical knowledge and prowess to the club and has even taken Marcus Rashford under his wing as a personal project to help him become a clinical finisher.

However, he’s not the only former player to be on the coaching staff, with former teammate Darren Fletcher also on the coaching staff as a technical coach.
Now the pair could be joined by another former Manchester United star who played alongside Fletcher after van Nistelrooy had left for Real Madrid.
Former Manchester United midfielder is keen to re-join the club
Reports from Sam C on X have claimed that former Manchester United captain Michael Carrick is looking to return to The Red Devils.
The former midfielder who is currently managing Middlesbrough retired at Old Trafford in 2018 after twelve years at the club, joining from Spurs in 2006.
After hanging up his boots, Carrick took on the role of assistant manager under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jose Mourinho before stepping up to the role of caretaker manager.
Now, it appears that the 43-year-old is being considered as a potential option to take up one of these roles once more and see the season out with United.
It’s also understood that if he does take on the role, the club would be looking at retaining him once a permanent replacement to Erik ten Hag is appointed in the summer.
