SEAT PLEASANT, Md. (TCN) — Police arrested a 32-year-old woman for allegedly shooting her teenage daughter, who is in critical condition from the incident.
On Monday, Sept. 23, just before 5 p.m., Seat Pleasant Police Department officers were called to the 500 block of 69th Place regarding a shooting. When they arrived, they located a 13-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the upper part of her body. Medics transported her to a local hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Gun Crimes Unit took over the investigation and concluded that the victim’s mother, Talecka Brown, allegedly shot her daughter in their home.
Court records show Brown is being charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and a firearm charge.
Seat Pleasant Acting Chief of Police Cedric Heyward said in a statement, “It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but it is heart-wrenching when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector. I am glad to hear that the victim is recovering at a local hospital, but the emotional trauma will remain for some time.”
Brown was ordered to be held without bond.
