The former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya MC Oluomo, was elected the union’s new president on Saturday.
Akinsanya was elected at the NURTW’s delegate congress held in Osun State where he was the sole candidate.
Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti States took part in the election held at the union’s Zonal Secretariat along the Osogbo/Ikirun road.
The duo of Tajudeen Agbede and Akeem Adeosun were elected as Vice President, South-West, and Trustee from the zone respectively.
The exercise was monitored by NURTW’s acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore.
He was represented at the congress by the Head of Finance at the NURTW National Headquarters in Abuja, Mrs. Adedamola Salam.
In his address, Issa-Ore said the union’s constitution stipulates that the zone permitted to fill the national president’s position would elect its preferred candidate and present them to the national body.
He said: “The South-West zone has fully complied with the constitution in electing Oluomo as President.”
