Kylian Mbappe has admitted that France’s performance at the 2024 European Championship was a failure, but he has promised that the team is ready to improve ahead of the clash against Italy.
France will take on Italy on Friday in the UEFA Nations League at Parc des Princes.
Despite reaching the semi-finals of the tournament in Germany, Mbappé described his team’s campaign as a “failure” after they crashed out against Spain.
The 25-year-old said he has adjusted his mindset as a result of the experience in Germany.
He said, “I am in a place where I have always wanted to be; last year, there was a bit of distance,
“For us, there is nothing more important than the French national team, we have already won this competition, and there wasn’t an extraordinary reaction,
“All my career, I have hated losing. Last year, I just liked winning, now I am back in that mindset of hating failure.”
Mbappé also revealed that he is enjoying life at the Santiago Bernabeu after joining in the summer.
He has now scored three goals and also won the UEFA Super Cup trophy against Atalanta.
He said, “I’m very happy to be in Madrid, it is going very well, we have already won a trophy,” he said, referring to the LaLiga champions’ victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.
He added, “In terms of performance, it is getting better and better, I have scored goals. I always arrive [to the France camp] with the same energy — wanting to help the French team as much as possible.”
France will also face Belgium and Israel in their Nations League group.
