Mauricio Pochettino favourite to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Zinedine Zidane and Brendan Rodgers also in contention

Mauricio Pochettino is the new frontrunner to become the next Manchester United boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked at Old Trafford.

There are numerous potential candidates for the huge Premier League role including club legends Cristiano Ronaldo, Nicky Butt, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher.

Hands up if you want the Manchester United job…

But Paris Saint-Germain boss Pochettino, formerly of Tottenham, is the current favourite.

And Pochettino is ‘desperate’ to become United’s new manager, sources close to the Argentine have told talkSPORT.

Solskjaer was dismissed after a disastrous run of form from his side culminated in a woeful 4-1 humbling at Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

They suffered a 5-0 loss to Liverpool in October and a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City prior to the international break.

The Red Devils face a packed schedule from now with the winter football in full swing, including the final Champions League group stage ties against Villarreal and Young Boys.

The club have placed Michael Carrick in temporary charge as they look for an interim manager to until the end of the season and he’s now among the leading names at 7/2.

Brendan Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Erik ten Hag are also in the mix.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the Red Devils after a decade away has also prompted questions to a potential move to a managerial role.
