Matthijs de Ligt has quickly become one of Manchester United’s standout performers recently.
Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival, the Dutch centre-back has thrived in the new system at Old Trafford.
Signed for £38 million from Bayern Munich, De Ligt’s early displays raised some doubts.
However, Amorim’s switch to a back three has transformed his form and confidence.
De Ligt now anchors the middle of the defence, where he has looked commanding.
The impact a tactical switch can have on a player can simply not be underestimated.
Recently, De Ligt has stepped into a mentorship role for younger players in the squad.
The 24-year-old understands the pressure of playing at the top level from a young age.
De Ligt has been quick to state a teammate in his position possesses “all the tools” to become a great.

That player is Leny Yoro, a centre-back who is beginning to show his true quality under Amorim.
Speaking to club media, De Ligt spoke highly of teenager praising his speed, technical ability and aerial strength.
“He has all the tools to become a really good modern defender.
“I think he’s a really great talent.”
De Ligt is eager to pass on his knowledge to help Yoro reach the peak of his development.
“I really want to help him [Yoro], because I think he has a lot of potential.”
Yoro seemed to struggle at the start of the season in finding his feet under Erik ten Hag.
However, Amorim’s switch has since given the centre-backs more comfortability and security in defensive scenarios.
De Ligt reflected on his own journey, noting that he faced similar challenges at Yoro’s age.
His advice for the Frenchman is to stay grounded and focus on continuous improvement.
“You can’t be so focused on winning that you’re not improving as a player anymore,” De Ligt explained.
Of course, leaps and bounds will come for Yoro as it has done for De Ligt in his time at Bayern Munich and now United.
Stability in the overall team is essential in providing young players the platform to thrive.
Yoro in particular, possesses the traits of a typical ball playing centre-back to succeed at the club.
A talent that will most likely prove his worth in years to come.
