With conversations taking place between Manchester United and Matthijs de Ligt‘s management team around the contract on offer, an offer for the Dutchman is expected very shortly.

The contract on offer from the Red Devils would see de Ligt at Old Trafford until 2029, with five years offered to the 24-year-old.

Erik ten Hag is extremely keen to bring the centre-back to United after his time managing the young defender at Ajax before ten Hag moved to United.

The pair had 70 games across two years as player and manager, a time which saw Ajax complete the Dutch domestic double with de Ligt wearing the Captains band as the youngest ever captain of Ajax Amsterdam.

Ten Hag feels assured in de Ligt’s capabilities, not just from personal experience, but also from the defender’s time at Juventus and Bayern Munich, as well as the Dutch national team.

With ten Hag’s career at United saved by the Red Devil’s FA Cup final win to secure two trophies in two years, the 54-year-old is confident that de Ligt will be able to strengthen the back along side Lisandro Martinez to bring in at least one more trophy next year.

However, Bayern are still yet to receive an official bid for the defender.

In preparation for receiving an official offer though, the Bundesliga club have announced their valuation on the 24-year-old.

Florian Plettenberg has announced on X that the German club have set a price tag of €50 million for the player, plus bonus payments.

One area that Dan Ashworth will be focusing on with his imminent start at United will be around player valuations and ensuring that the club aren’t overpaying for their targets.

With Ashworth set to be in post in the coming days and top agent Rafaela Pimenta working for de Ligt to get the deal across the line, no doubt we’ll soon hear more about United’s first offical bid for Erik ten Hag’s prized target.
