Mason Greenwood has been encouraged to sue Manchester United after Benjamin Mendy successfully did so against their rivals Manchester City.
Mendy will be paid £9million in wages that were withheld from him while he was suspended at City.
The Frenchman was charged with rape and sexual assualt but was later cleared.
A source has told The Sun that Mason Greenwood and his representatives have been inspired by the outcome of Mendy’s case and may take a similar approach.

However, United are prepared for any potential legal action against them.
‘This is something that has been on the cards ever since criminal charges against Mason were dropped.
‘The club has noted the Mendy case and the potential implications it has for them,’ the source said.
However, Mendy’s case was different to Greenwood’s, as the latter received full pay while he was suspended.
For this reason, the ex-United star would have to fight the courts on the grounds that his suspension caused a ‘potential’ loss of earnings.
‘The two cases are fundamentally different,’ the source continued.
‘Mendy was suspended without pay by City, whilst Mason was suspended on full pay.
‘If he were to launch legal action it would be for a loss of potential earnings.
‘He was one of the hottest prospects in Europe – his suspension destroyed it all in an instant.’

Greenwood could also claim that his suspension negatively impacted his mental health.
This route of legal action would likely yield less financial benefit than if he were to claim potential salary losses.
However, United could still be held liable and have to pay the 23-year-old compensation money.
‘The Mendy case has emboldened those around Greenwood,’ the source said.
‘They feel he was unfairly treated.
‘But the club sought legal advice at every single stage and is prepared should he go through with it.’
