It’s been very clear lately that Mason Greenwood’s future lies away from United.
Following his return from suspension, Greenwood managed to secure a loan to Getafe where he shone with 10 goals in 36 games, kick starting his footballing career once again.
Being awarded the Getafe Player of the Season award, Greenwood’s performances did enough to make top teams sit up and take note.
Borussia Dortmund have had a key interest in the winger, however he featured more as a back up plan if they couldn’t finalise a deal with first choice Jadon Sancho.
Juventus came next among a batch of Serie A teams including Napoli and Lazio, all fighting it out for the 22-year-old.
For a while it appeared as though Juve were going to secure the English forward, with personal terms having been agreed.
However, Lazio arrived with €20 million to match United’s asking price and offering 50% of a future transfer fee in a very forward move to attempt to beat The Old Lady to signing Greenwood.
In the midst of this madness, Ligue 1 side Marseille also declared their interest in the young star, with the 22-year-old reportedly favouring a move to France.
Well, Greenwood may get his way as Marseille have now officially submitted a bid for the Englishman.
Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that although the full value of the offer is yet to be revealed, it’s been reported as exceeding that of Lazio’s.
United have announced that Greenwood is one of the players they’re prioritising selling this summer to raise transfer funds for their squad rebuild.
With the 22-year-old being a United academy graduate, any sale of the star will count as pure profit under Premier League regulations, supporting to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
As Marseille is Greenwood preferred suitor at the moment, it seems like a deal with the French club would definitely suit all parties involved if it can get across the line.
