The players is still here and hungry
With the news that Marvel was about to announce a new video game, the ears of fighting game fans perked up no matter how small the chance is for it to be a new Marvel vs. Capcom title.
Now, we know that the project is a team-based game, but Marvel Rivals is a shooter, not a fighter. Fans are still showing they’re hungry and hopeful for MvC — though the FGC will keep the spirit alive even without Marvel vs. Capcom 4.
Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 hero shooter in the lane of Overwatch where icons like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Loki, Magneto, Rocket Raccoon, Doctor Strange, Storm, The Punisher and more can team up and face off online.
The game is apparently being developed by NetEase for the PC with a closed alpha coming sometime in May.
It seems that whenever a new Marvel game is announced MvC starts being talked about and requested more again, but the series never truly went away on the community side.
Sure, we’re now as far away from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s release in 2017 as MvCI was from the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Official support isn’t truly needed here in the FGC, however, it would be nice.
There’s still tournaments on a weekly basis where 50–100+ people consistently sign up to fight over Parsec (or offline) in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 thanks to Tampa Never Sleeps and other organizers keeping the train going for a game that’s about to be 13 years old — and new players are still showing up to and doing well.
Everyone wants Marvel vs Capcom 4 …

Plus, UMvC3 had its largest tournament ever just last year thanks to it appearing as the classic title at Evo 2023.
The amazing modding community has also picked up the slack on official support by adding in new characters with custom models, moves and animations now that keeps the game fresh and interesting with their own crazy tournaments plus a Community Edition of Marvel 3 in the works.
A brand new game would of course be great for the FGC (if handled correctly), but the community never really left it behind despite all of the past foibles. You just have to know where to look.
Marvel is pushing harder into video games at the moment with other titles like Blade, Wolverine, 1943: Rise of Hydra and others in development, but Marvel vs. Capcom 4 still doesn’t seem very likely.
While Street Fighter 6 is performing well having sold 3 million copies in its first six months, its still not on the level of Resident Evil or Monster Hunter for Capcom, so we feel supporting two fully-fledged fighters right now in the current industry climate would not be the highest on their priority list — especially after what happened with Marvel Infinite.
None of these say Marvel vs Capcom 4 https://t.co/mz2IFaoeMS

What is most likely at this juncture would be a new classic compilation of older Marvel fighting games on current consoles like we previously had on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 before they were delisted.
Hell, getting Marvel avatar costumes in Street Fighter 6 right now seems more probable than MvC4 coming in the next few years.
We’re not going to say the door is completely closed since there is some working relationship between Capcom and Marvel with their Arcade1UP cabinets and Evo appearance.
If you are really craving some MvC right now, look into the active communities, join some Discord channels, and check in on the modding scene.
Mahvel still lives, even if we have to do it ourselves.
