It is finally here. Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is officially available digitally and fans are wasting no time jumping into the fray.
A lot of information on the new compilation is being shared right now, and though the reviews and reception to the game have been overwhelmingly positive, there appear to be some realities that need to be faced. Content creator and avid Versus series fan JMCrofts released his review of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection today, and while he feels the game is ALMOST perfect, there exist several flaws that hold it back from being the ultimate package.
JMCrofts begins by pointing out the good stuff about the new compilation. He notes how the performance of each game feels similar to their best ports, that the gallery offerings are strong, and that the added challenges incentivize players to try new things.
“Overall, 90% I think they did a really great job of translating this game over and giving us the features that are kind of expected out of a modern product,” JMCroft says about the new title.
Focusing on Marvel vs. Capcom 2, however, he goes on to point out some of the flaws. Firstly, JMCrofts notes how this collection doesn’t offer any crossplay between platforms, though he admits this is generally a premium feature that isn’t included in every fighting game.
A much bigger offense, though, is the fact that there is no quick rematch option. Showing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 as an example, JM notes that you’ll have to reselect your entire team with assists in offline versus and even online, and though this is how it was in past ports of the game, this feels like a massive missed opportunity.
Going even further beyond, it looks as though some balance changes were actually made in MvC2. We learn that the Juggernaut power up glitch has been removed (which makes the character quite a bit worse than he already is), and some game breaking glitches also no longer work.
