The more time being spent with the new Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, the more the community unearths about it. Several folks in the fighting game community are actively digging into Capcom and Marvel’s latest offering to answer the most asked questions about it.
Among these questions, many players are wondering what the new compilation’s input lag looks like and if it’s better, on par, or worse than the optimal past versions of these games. The most competitive title of the bunch, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, has already gone under the microscope, and it looks like its input lag results are in.
Twitter user noodalls has delved into testing for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in the new Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection and come back up with its input lag numbers.
The specifics of the testing are as follows. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in the new compilation was tested with the PlayStation 4 version being played on a PlayStation 5.
For those who understand the technical jargon, noodalls used the Video Interrupt Method and turbo for testing, did these experiments in training mode and monitored command history and animations. Apparently, about 1,000 trials were run, and the data we have come from across 110 trials.
According to noodalls, both command history and animation produced results of 57.71ms, and to determine how that translates over to frames, we have to do some quick math. Essentially, the 57.71ms has to be be divided by 16.67 as that is how many milliseconds one frame takes when we’re looking at 60 frames per second.
In layman’s terms, the input lag for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is around 3.5 frames. Many have reported that this is about on par with the Sega Dreamcast version, which is one of the best and most competitive past ports of the game.
As it stands right now, the reviews and reception for the new compilation have been very strong. The title isn’t without its flaws, though, as we learned that some glaring omissions and changes might have held it back from being the perfect package.
